Yvonne Sandlin

Yvonne (Banks) Sandlin, lovingly known as Von or Yo Yo, age 86, passed away peacefully on April 28th, 2023, after a long battle with Alzheimer's at St. Andrews Health Campus in Batesville, Indiana. Born on Booger Branch in Owsley County, Kentucky on Christmas Day in 1936 to Carl and Lillie (Edwards) Banks. The oldest of seven, she later would become the matriarch of the Banks clan.

On August 6th, 1955, she married Berdette (Bert) Sandlin at Smyrna Baptist Church in New Trenton, Indiana. They celebrated 67 years of marriage, before his passing in August 2022. She worked at Harrison Shoe Factory, Sperry Rubber Co., Huismann’s and eventually retired from JTM Food Group.

Back in the day, she loved to sew and often made clothes for the family and always had a large vegetable garden. She was a board member of the Southeastern Indiana Alzheimers Support Group in the 1990’s. Yvonne enjoyed taking girl trips back home to Kentucky with her cousins and walking with the ladies on Chappelow Ridge. She never knew a stranger. Her feisty spirit made her easy to love and a joy to be around.

She will be dearly missed by her children: Marvin (Brenda) of Franklin, Oh., Annette (T.J.) Iacobucci of West Harrison, In., Garry (Shannon) of Covington, Ky., Brian (Jen) of Sunman, In., Mark (Dana Ross) of Harrison, Oh. Seven grandchildren, Crystal, Aaron, Savannah, Emily, Elena, Elijah and Avery. Two great-grandchildren, Maci and Connor. Siblings Dallas Banks, Joe Banks and Wanda Hensley. Numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her husband, Berdette, parents, Carl and Lillie Banks, brothers Lonnie, Wendell, and Hank Banks.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 2, 2023, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Shawn Crisman officiating all at Jackman Hensley Funeral Home, 215 East Broadway Street, Harrison, Ohio 45030. A burial will follow at Gibson Cemetery in Bright, Indiana.
