Wade Vance Richards, age 87, passed away Sunday, November 3, 2013 at his home in Harrison, OH. Born April 8, 1926 in Akron, OH he was the son of Robert & Edna (Scott) Richards. Wade joined the Navy at the age of 15 during WWII. He lied about his age and his father signed the papers when he promised to come back and finish high school when discharged. He was deployed to Hiroshima just 3 days after they dropped the bomb. After his discharge, he graduated from Akron East High School as promised. Wade was married to Geraldine Wade on June 14, 1947 and she survives. In 1950, he joined the Marines and served his country for two more years. Wade is a member of St. John United Church of Christ and the American Legion Benson Yeager Post 199 in Harrison, OH. He retired from Action Advertising as a salesperson then, went to work for Pinkerton Security as a security guard. In addition to his wife Geraldine I. Richards, Wade is survived by his sons Eric Richards & Kenneth Richards both of Harrison, OH and daughters Terry (Gary) Minneman of Bright, IN, Vicki Richards of Harrison, OH & Toni (Calvin) Smith of Cincinnati, OH. He will also be missed by his grandsons Scott Schaefer & Jonathan Minneman, granddaughters Angela (Shawn) Johnson, Amanda Richards & Rachael Smith, great grandchildren Scotty, Daniel, Joshua, & Elijah Schaefer and Heather Minneman, his brother Kenneth Richards and his sister Helen Connaway. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Gale Richards and his sister Virginia Adamson. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 6, 2013 from 5-7pm at Jackman Kercheval Meyers Funeral Home, Harrison, OH. Funeral Services will be Thursday at 11:00am at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Harold Shackelford officiating. Burial will follow with military graveside rites by the Harrison Funeral Detail at Glen Haven Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Crossroads Hospice c/o the funeral home.
