Russell "Poppy" Lowell Gambrel, Jr. was born on April 23, 1944, in Barbourville, Kentucky. He peacefully departed this life on August 15, 2025, in Harrison, Ohio, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and cherished memories.
A proud graduate of William Henry Harrison High School, Class of 1961, Lowell committed himself to a life of hard work and dedication. He spent his career as a self-employed truck driver, where he both enjoyed the freedom of the open road and the opportunity to connect with many people along the way. His profession was more than just a job; it was a reflection of his adventurous spirit and determination.
On July 14, 1962, Lowell married the love of his life, Wanda Lee Hall, in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Their partnership was built on mutual respect and deep affection, and together they created a warm and loving home for their family. Lowell's devotion to Wanda remained steadfast until her passing.
Lowell was a loving father to his daughters, Sandy Gambrel Williams and Sherry (Gordon) Adams. He took immense pride in being a grandfather to Brandon (Jessica) Wood and Madison Gambrel, and he found great joy in the light of his life—his great-grandchildren, Landon Wood and Kaylee Wood. The bonds he formed with his family were significant, and his legacy will undoubtedly live on in their hearts.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Wanda Gambrel, along with his parents, Lowell and Edna Gambrel, and his brother, Farris Gambrel. Though he now joins them in eternal rest, Lowell’s love and memories will remain etched in the hearts of those who knew him.
The community is invited to honor Lowell's life during visitation on August 23, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM at Jackman Hensley Funeral Home, located at 215 E Broadway Street, Harrison, Ohio 45030. Burial will follow at Gibson Cemetery in Bright, Indiana.
