Rufus B. King, age 88 years of W. Harrison, In passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at the VA Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. Born October 4, 1922 in Taft, KY to the late Silas Wright & Grova (Roberts) King. Rufus married Evelyn Banks in Ft. Thomas, KY on September 20, 1946 and was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Harrison, OH. After graduating from Harrison High School he worked for a short time with the railroad and then US Shoe before going to serve his country in the US Army Air Force during WWII. Rufus loved to work with electronics. He could build anything from anything, from Ham Radios to computers. He spoke to one Apollo Mission while in space, on a Ham Radio, and received a certificate to verify he did so. He did a lot of restoration with wood products and there were a lot of old wood radios around the house. He also helped several people get jobs thru his work at Corporex Construction in Kentucky where he retired as a lead carpenter and was a mentor to many. Rufus is survived by his wife Evelyn King; son-in-law Jeff Brown of Moores Hill, IN; grandchildren Jeff Brown Jr., Jason Brown & Craig "Buck" Brown; great grandchildren Megan Brown, Ruby Brown & Trenton Gridley. He will also be missed by his siblings Melba (King) Sturgill of Bright, IN & Ollis King of Kansa City, MO. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughters Janet Brown & Diane King and sister Zella (King) Russell-Freel. Visitation will be Friday, February 11, 2011 from 4-7pm at Jackman Kercheval Meyers Funeral Home, Harrison, OH. Funeral Services will be Saturday at 10:00am at the funeral home with Rev. Winston Shelton officiating. Burial will be in Gibson Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Harrison Funeral Detail. Memorials are suggested to the Funeral Detail c/o the funeral home.
