Ronald Wayne Redmon, 79, died at his residence in Tucson, Arizona, on August 3, 2022.
Ron was born on September 11, 1942, in Versailles, Kentucky, and grew up in Harrison, Ohio. He attended William Henry Harrison High School, graduating in 1961. He was a guard on the varsity basketball team that went undefeated during his senior year.
Ron was the first person in his family to go to college, attending Cumberland College, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in education. He later did graduate work at several universities, obtaining a master’s degree in guidance and counseling as well as certification in elementary and secondary administration.
In 1965, Ron married Kathleen Barrow, and he and Kathy had four children together: Erin (Jim Hill), Ryan (Erica Salinas), Scott (Sarah), and Chris. The family settled in southeastern Indiana, living primarily in Aurora and then Vevay while the children were growing up.
From 1967 to 1968, Ron served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam as a radar operator in the artillery. After Vietnam, he started a career in public education, first as a teacher, then guidance counselor, and eventually principal. While working in education, he was able to coach school sports, including boys’ and girls’ basketball, and he also served as a longtime Little League coach.
In addition to his wife and children, Ron is survived by his grandchildren Allysa, Carson, Dylan, Aydan, and Eleanor Redmon; his sisters Dorothy (Samuel) Cohen of Williamsburg, VA and Betty Redmon of Batesville, IN; and his extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents Stanley and Jane (Hall) Redmon and brothers Stanley Jr. and Robert Redmon.
Visitation and funeral services will take place on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at Jackman-Hensley Funeral Home, 215 East Broadway, Harrison, Ohio 45030. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., with the funeral service at noon. Interment will be at Glen Haven Cemetery.
