Robert Matthew Dixon, age 59, of West Harrison, IN, died Sunday, October 16, 2005 at his home. He farmed, and for the past 15 years, operated Dixon Peach Orchard. The loyal customers waited anxiously each year for the crop to be harvested. He was born October 25, 1945 in New Castle, KY, moving with his family to Franklin County, IN at age nine. He was one of four children born to Gilbert & Jessie (Baker) Dixon. Bob attended Springfield and Whitewater Schools. He was devoted to his wife, Elizabeth (Bowman) Dixon, whom he married on October 15, 1962 at Mt. Carmel Methodist Church. They have one son, Robert Charles (Connie Mays) Dixon and two grandchildren Hannah & Wyatt Dixon all of W. Harrison, IN. He loved his family deeply and shared in their lives. Bob was a lover of history, feeling strongly that local history should be preserved. Most recently he assisted in the creation of the book entitled "The Stories We Have To Tell", which is a documentation of the history of Whitewater Township, IN, where he and Libby have made their home for 43 years. He had dreams of restoring the one room school known as LaRue "No. 1" School. Bob worked long hours trying to complete this project; and now it will be finished by friends and family, while he looks down with a smile. He was one of the founding members of the Whitewater Valley Archaeological Society. He had a lifelong interest in Native Americans and their culture. Other survivors include his mother Jessie Stivers of Warsaw, KY; brother Kenneth Dixon of Patriot, IN; sisters Rose Johnson of Columbus, IN and Shirley Rahn of Bright, IN. Preceded in death by father Gilbert and grandparents, Charles and Margaret Dixon and Walker and Nettie Baker. Bob leaves behind many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, numerous friends and neighbors. Visitation will be Thurs. Oct. 20, 2005 from 4-7 pm followed by services at 7 pm all at Jackman Kercheval Meyers Funeral Home in Harrison, OH. Graveside services by Rev. Dr. Harold Shackelford will be Fri. Oct. 21, 2005; 11:00 am at Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Franklin County, IN. Memorials are suggested to Whitewater Valley Archaeological Society, Cemetery Fund or the family for a monument.
