Merle L. Steele

Merle L. Steele, age 64 of Logan, IN passed away Friday, August 26, 2016 in Cincinnati, OH.  Born March 12, 1952 in Hamilton, OH he was the son of Bernard & Helen (Webster) Steele.

Merle, a 1970 graduate of North Dearborn High School, graduated from basic training at the Marine Corp Base Paris Island, SC on July 31 with top honors. For his achievements he was advanced to Private First Class and received his dress blues.

Steele started basic training May 25 with 219 other men. Out of the total, 110 of these young men graduated July 31 and 12 of them were advanced to Private First Class Rank. Only Steele and two others graduated with top honors.

In 1994 he married Sarah K. (Yaggi) Martin in Tennessee.  He also worked for Kokosing Construction.

Merle is survived by his wife Sarah K. Steele, sons Craig J. Martin (Maria) of Hilliard, OH & Sean Martin (Kirsi) Espoo, Finland.  He will also be missed by his granddaughters Olivia & Madison Martin, his sister Jacquline Wurth of Independence, KY and brothers Lonnie Steele (Sally) of Surprise, AZ and Robert Steele of Neodesha, KS.  Other family members are his nieces & nephews Lauren Wade (Josh) of Independence, KY and their children Olivia & Tyler (now a US Marine Semper Fi), Emily Steele of Surprise, AZ and her children Mali & Isla, Jessica Alessio (Craig) of Surprise, AZ , Devon Steele of Logan IN and his daughter Lily and Nick Steele of Surprise, AZ

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 7, 2016 from 5:30pm until time of services at 7:30pm at Jackman Kercheval Meyers Funeral Home, Harrison, OH.  Memorials are suggested to CharityWatch, a Semper Fi Fund c/o the funeral home.
