Lois Laverne Gellert (nee Blasdel) of Sawdon Ridge, Guilford, Indiana, passed away on August 18, 2023, in Batesville, Indiana, at the age of 90. She was born on March 23, 1933, in Bright, Indiana, to Lillian (nee Jackson) and Walter Blasdel. On May 10, 1952, Lois married Norman Lewis Gellert, and the couple moved into their beloved farmhouse on Sawdon Ridge where she lived for the next 72 years.
Before her marriage, Lois was employed at the Seagram Traffic Department office, but left her job to raise their three children and help with the work on their large dairy and beef cattle farm. As her children grew older, she found employment at East Central High School where many students referred to her fondly as the ”bookstore lady” for five years, followed by 17 years as office manager at Patron’s Insurance in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.
Lois was never shy about sharing her love for the life that she and Norman built together on Sawdon Ridge. All three of their children are testimony to that legacy, currently residing on the Hoosier Homestead Farm that has belonged to the family for over 150 years. In her free time, Lois enjoyed gardening, quilting, and playing euchre and bridge with friends and family. An active member of the Dearborn Hills United Methodist Church, she sang in the choir and served on countless committees over the years in support of various missions and community service, including her tireless work with their monthly Senior Luncheon.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband Norman Lewis Gellert; parents Lillian and Walter Blasdel; sisters Mary Bennett, Anna Benjamin, and Wilma Elmer; brothers Ervin Blasdel and John Blasdel; and great-grandson Logan Gellert.
Lois is survived by her three children: Gary (Laura) Gellert, Terry (Linda) Gellert, and Connie Gellert; and nine grandchildren: Blaine (Katie) Gellert, Corey (Jessica) Gellert, Trey Gellert, Susan (Eric) Ketcham, Lucy (Tommy) Misetic, Grant (Abby) Gellert, Kyle Shipman, Carson Shipman, and Klay Shipman. She was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren: Ostyn, Ryker, Levi, Sophia, and Landon Gellert; Alex and Jackson Ketcham; and Gabe and Charlotte Misetic. Lois is also survived by her sister, Alice (George) Rustemeyer.
Visitation will be on Monday, August 21, 2023, at Dearborn Hills Church in Bright, Indiana, from 10:00 a.m. until noon. Funeral services will commence at 12:00 p.m. and conclude with burial at Gibson Cemetery in Bright.
