Lauren Elizabeth Hill was born October 1, 1995 in Cincinnati, Ohio to D. Brent and Lisa M. (Harper) Hill of Greendale, Indiana. Lauren passed away early on April 10, 2015 at Children's Hospital in Cincinnati with her loving family by her side. Lauren was 19 ½ years old. The 2014 Lawrenceburg High School graduate and homecoming queen has always been active in sports, participating on the LHS Soccer and basketball teams. The LHS National Honor Society member was also a multi-academic award winner. Lauren attended Mount St. Joseph University this fall as a freshman and a member of their women's basketball team. When she was no longer eligible to play basketball, she became their honorary coach. Lauren also attended the Trinity Christian Church in Lawrenceburg, IN. The inspiring young #22 player had the game of a lifetime on November 2, 2014 and was awarded the Pat Summitt Most Courageous Award' by the board of directors of the US Basketball Writers Association. Lauren was also featured on a Wheaties Box, graced the cover of Xbox One NBA Live 15, given the NFL's Ed Block Courage Award, made All-Conference First Team in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, bestowed with an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from MSJ, honored with the Governor's Courage Award from Ohio Gov. John Kasich, made one of 50 most inspirational women by Glamour Magazine and named Chief Motivational Officer' of the Cure Starts Now Foundation. In addition to these prestigious awards, she has helped to raise over $1.5 millon dollars in cancer research funding. Lauren is survived by her parents; brother Nathan and sister Erin Hill; grandparents, Gerald & Patricia Hill, Carol & Mark Katenkamp and Les & Becky Harper; great grandmother, Emilee Clements; aunts & uncles, Brad & Mae Hill, Holly & Scott Bader, Rusty Harper, Diedra Brunicardi, Angie Harper & Sabrina Harper; along with many great aunts & uncles, cousins, teammates and friends. Family was a priority in Lauren's life. She enjoyed spending time with them and her friends. Lauren also had a special buddy, Sophie, a little dog who meant so much to her. The outdoors was another love of hers. Whether it was hiking, camping, biking or running the ski lifts at Perfect North Slopes, Lauren enjoyed just being out in nature. Lauren touched a nation with her desire to play basketball and spread awareness for DIPG working to raise money for the ultimate cure. She realized God had a plan for her and she was going to be the voice for those too young to speak for themselves. She will be dearly missed by her devoted family and friends, along with the many, many people whose lives she touched with her contagious smile, warm heart and her inspirational message to Never Give Up. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Xavier University's Cintas Center at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 2015 in Cincinnati, OH, where she scored her first 2 points for MSJ.
