John Henry Purtee, a devoted and cherished figure in his family and community, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026, in Blue Ash, Ohio. Born on July 12, 1944, in Toledo, Ohio, John lived a life marked by dedication, warmth, and a rich sense of humor that endeared him to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A graduate of Waite High School in Toledo, John embarked on a long and distinguished career as a Stationary Engineer at Gulf Refinery. His expertise and commitment served him well throughout the years. After retiring from this position, he continued to contribute his skills and leadership as the Maintenance Director at Seton High School, demonstrating his unwavering work ethic and care for his community until his retirement.
John was much more than his professional accomplishments. Known as a wonderful and devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and brother, he carried these roles with immense pride and love. His family was the cornerstone of his life. He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Bonnie (Paul) Purtee Brown and Angela (Keith) Kidwell, and his grandsons, Hayden and Lucas Kidwell. His sister, Juanita Danko, survives him, carrying forward the close family bonds John treasured.
He also leaves behind a legacy shaped by those who preceded him: his parents, Arthur Walter and Violet Florida (Gregg) Purtee; his beloved wife, Alberta Purtee; and his siblings Zella Wells, Lavone Cutcher, Claudette Purtee, Corrine Downey, Ralph, Clinton, Russell, Dale, and Cloyd Purtee.
John’s personality shone brightly through his passions and interests. Anyone fortunate enough to know him recalls his love for classic country music, a soundtrack to many cherished memories. He was an avid family historian, delighting in researching his family tree and connecting generations. His fondness for McDonald's coffee was well-known among friends and family, as was his wise humor—a delightful blend that brought joy and reflection to countless conversations. Stories of his trips out west and those magical family visits to Disney parks were shared with great enthusiasm and warmth, painting a vivid picture of a man who savored the simple joys life offered.
The community will have an opportunity to honor John’s memory and celebrate his life at a visitation on June 13, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed immediately by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Both events will be held at the Jackman Hensley Funeral Home, located at 215 E Broadway Street, Harrison, Ohio 45030.
John Henry Purtee’s life story is one of enduring love, steadfast dedication, and heartfelt connections. His legacy lives on through his family and all who were touched by his kindness, wisdom, and humor. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by those who cherish the privilege of having known him.
