John “Buss” Haberthier, Jr. age 94 of Bright, IN passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at the VA Community Living Center in Cincinnati, OH. Born September 8, 1922 in Cincinnati, he was the son of the late John & Edna (Boehringer) Haberthier.
John graduated from Electrical Vocational High School in 1939 and worked for Cincinnati Inc. as an electrician for 47 years. He served in the US Navy during WWII on the battleship USS Texas where it fired on Nazi defenses in Normandy on D-day. The battleship shelled Nazi positions in South France before transferring to the pacific where they lent gunfire support & anti-aircraft fire to the landings in Iwo Jima & Okinawa along with the liberation of the Philippines. He was a lifetime member of the Green Township VFW Post 10380 Nathanael Green Lodge, Over the Hill Gang and the Cincinnati Cavalier Motorcycle Club.
John is survived by his daughter Penny Potraffle (Roger) of Guilford and sons Skip Haberthier (Kaye) of Oxford, OH & Michael D. Haberthier (June) of Bright, IN. He will also be missed by his grandchildren Robyn, Kelly, Josh, Mark & Amber, great grandchildren Ryan, Jacob, Brooklyn, Lincoln & Taylor & his sister Gertrude Myer of Cincinnati, OH. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jane (Strotman) Haberthier, his brother Roger Haberthier and his sister Dorothy Copper.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 11, 2016 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Jackman Kercheval Meyers Funeral Home, Harrison, OH. Funeral Services will be Monday, December 12, 2016 at 10:00am at the Jackman Kercheval Meyers Funeral Home, 215 E. Broadway St., Harrison, OH 45030.
