Jeanie Smith

Jeanie Hurley Smith, age 94 of Bright, Indiana passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, December 21, 2021.  Born July 14, 1927 in Bright, Indiana, the daughter of Guy and Bess (Nowlin) Hurley.

Jeanie, a 1946 graduate of Bright High School married Jesse A. Smith, April 18, 1947 in Bright, Indiana.  Jeanie worked for Campbell Hausfeld, as a secretary in the Engineering Department, retiring in 1983. Jeanie was best known for her stories in the Bright Beacon titled, “In the Good Old Days.” Those stories kept her busy for more than 21 years. Jeanie was also known for how much she loved her church and her church family. She attended Bright Christian Church from the time she was born and stayed connected with so many families, always giving encouragement and love to all. Her favorite pastime was feeding the birds. She always had such a variety, and watching them kept her entertained for hours.

Jeanie is survived by her children Cyndi (George) Sundrup and Mark Smith.  Grandmother of 10, great grandmother of 30 and great great grandmother of 15.

Preceded in death by her parents Guy and Bess Hurley, beloved husband Jesse A. Smith, son Scott A. Smith, daughter-in-law Debra A. Smith and sister Doris Lambert.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 28, 2021 from 1:00 P.M. until time of funeral services at 3:00 P.M., with Pastor Mark Fugate officiating all at Bright Christian Church 24457 Stateline Road Lawrenceburg, Indiana 47025 .  Burial will follow at Gibson Cemetery Bright, Indiana.
