James T. Burk, affectionately known as Jim, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Born on October 31, 1938, the son of Stephen L. and Dorothy F. (nee Fullen) Burk in Hamilton, Ohio, Jim lived a life marked by dedication, service, and steadfast commitment to both his family and community.
A proud graduate of William Henry Harrison High School in 1956, Jim’s early years were shaped by a spirit of hard work and resilience. His sense of duty extended beyond personal achievement; he honorably served in the United States Army during the tense days of the Cuban Missile Crisis, a testament to his patriotism and courage.
For many years, Jim made his career as a Livestock Dealer, a profession through which he built lasting relationships and contributed significantly to his community. Among his livestock, Jim had an avid love for horses. His passion and involvement extended well into his veteran affairs, being an active member of American Legion Post #464, Am Vets #13, Snow Lodge in Harrison, Ohio, and he was a longstanding member of the Harrison Honor Guard. These associations reflected his respect for fellow servicemen and his commitment to honoring those who served.
On October 24, 1987, Jim married Mary Burk in St. Leon, Indiana, a partnership that enriched his life deeply until her passing. His family was the cornerstone of his life. He is lovingly survived by his son Jim Burk (Kim), and grandchildren Markus Kuykendoll (Abbi), Clint "CJ" Burk (Eliza), and Derek Burk. Jim was also a devoted great-grandfather to Owen, Reagan, Natalie, Audrey, and Bailey, whose lives he cherished dearly. He is further survived by his brother John Burk.
Jim’s parents, Stephen and Dorothy Burk, his wife Mary Burk, and brother Steve Burk preceded him in death. Their memories remain an integral part of his legacy.
A visitation to honor Jim’s memory will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Jackman Hensley Funeral Home, located at 215 East Broadway Street, Harrison, Ohio. Following the visitation, a graveside service will take place at Glen Haven Cemetery on New Biddinger Road in Harrison, starting 12:15 PM, with military honors provided by the United States Army and the Harrison Honor Guard.
Jim’s life was one of service, devotion, and heartfelt dedication. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him, yet the impact of his commitment to family, country, and community will endure through the cherished memories he leaves behind.
Donations in memory of Jim can be directed to St Jude Children's Hospital, Shriners Burn Hospital, and or Ruth Lyons Children's Fund in care of the funeral home.
