James H. “Jim” Bowling age 52 of Aurora, Indiana passed away Saturday, May 8, 2021 in Edgewood, Kentucky. He was born November 1, 1968 in Hamilton, Ohio to Robert Bowling and Margaret (Charles) Ripperger.
Jim grew up in Bright, Indiana and graduated from East Central High School in 1988. He loved sports, and played football as a defensive end and fullback from kindergarten until he graduated high school. He was also a member of the wrestling team. After graduation, Jim joined the United States Army as a Combat Engineer. He was stationed in Ft. Bragg, NC, home of the 82nd Airborne Division. While there, he earned the Parachutist badge, Air Assault Badge, coveted Ranger Tab, and many other military awards and decorations. He was a combat veteran who saw conflict during the United States Invasion of Panama and Desert Storm. After four years of service, he received an Honorable Discharge. Following his military service, Jim started his career. He became an extremely skilled fabricator, spending the last 10 years working at Modern Sheet Metal. Because of his love for sports, Jim spent his spare time coaching football and baseball. He coached baseball when his own boys were young, and he spent several years coaching peewee and middle school football. He also helped the high school football team in the early 2000’s. He was at every practice and game possible that his sons were a part of growing up. Jim also enjoyed being outdoors, making any animal his pet, and working on vehicles and motorcycles with his sons. He loved going to heavy metal/80’s concerts with his sister Missy, and spending time with his grandsons. He was loved by all who knew him, and will be missed by his countless friends and family members.
Jim is survived by his children, Chris (Kylee) Cook, Austin Bowling, and Parker Bowling. He is also survived by his mother Margaret (Charles) Ripperger, sister Melissa Myers, grandchildren Jensen and Gideon Cook, as well as many aunts, nephews, and cousins.
Preceded in death by his father Robert Bowling, and his grandparents Hubert and Magdalene Bowling.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 13, 2021 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Funeral services will be Friday, May 14, 2021 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Hobert Bowling officiating at Jackman Hensley Funeral Home, 215 Broadway Street, Harrison, Ohio 45030 . Burial to follow at Gibson Cemetery in Bright, Indiana with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, contributions would be appreciated for the care and support of Jim’s youngest sons.
