Herman G. Mclaughlin

Herman G. McLaughlin, age 80 years of Harrison, OH passed away Sunday, February 18, 2007 in Cincinnati, OH. Born April 20, 1926 in Newport, KY he was the son of the late Herman & Elsie (Graydon) McLaughlin. He was a veteran of WWII in the Army Infantry. Herman enlisted in the Army at age 17 and was sent to Europe immediately following basic training. He traveled there on the ship Queen Mary, which was in use as a troop transport. His bunk was located, along with a few hundred others, in the swimming pool, and as he recalled, it was very difficult to find your bunk. Recognized for his ability he was made a scout, an important and dangerous job. He was awarded 2 Purple Hearts, and the Bronze Star for bravery. After the war he was asked to run an enlisted man's club, a movie theater for enlisted men and a bowling alley, all of which were successful. After he returned to Cincinnati he was employed as a truck driver, most recently with Suburban Motor Freight. Herman had a great love and respect for nature, and his favorite pastimes were fishing and boating. He married Carol Reynolds on Jan. 17, 1991 in Lawrenceburg, IN. Mr. McLaughlin is survived by his wife & best friend Carol Perkins McLaughlin, children Tracey McLaughlin & Peggy McFarland; step children Carol (Kevin) Smith, William (Endee Felty) Perkins, Donna (Gary) Dornbusch, Robert Perkins, Thomas (Teresa) Perkins, Kenneth Perkins, Cathleen (Heiner)Berrick & the late Timothy Perkins; grandchildren Amanda & Brittaney Dunn, Trillium & James McLaughlin, Emily & Hillary Smith, Kenneth Perkins Jr., Amanda & Heather Perkins and Gabriel & Hayley Berrick; 1 great grandson; brother Grady McLaughlin & best buddies Dylan & Sinbad. Visitation will be Thurs., Feb. 22, 2007 from 11-12:30 followed by services at 12:30 PM at Jackman Kercheval Meyers Funeral Home in Harrison, OH with Father Edward Shine officiating. Burial with military graveside rites by the Harrison Funeral Detail will be in St. Joseph New Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Right to Life c/o the Funeral Home.
