Emma Jean Hicks, age 90 of W. Harrison, IN passed away Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg, IN. She was born in Clay County, KY on January 9, 1925 to Nathaniel & Della Mae (Hensley) Pennington. On July 17, 1943 she married Monroe Hicks and he preceded her in death on November 26, 1996. She was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church in New Trenton, IN. Emma loved being a homemaker. She loved gardening and canning. She could can 120 quarts of beans in one day. She also loved to cook and according to her family, she was the best cook ever. She never used a recipe, it was always just add a pinch here and add a pinch there. She also loved being with her family and the grandkids who all loved her very much. Even the neighborhood kids loved her. If everyone was like Emma, there would be no homeless kids. She will be missed by everyone that knew her. Emma is survived by her children Billie Jean Byrd of Harrison, OH; Louetta (Gerald) Davidson of W. Harrison, IN & Bob (Cathy) Hicks of W. Harrison, IN. She will also be missed by her sisters Eunice Cole & Betty Lou Baker, her brothers Donald & Arthur Pennington and several nieces & nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son Alfred Hicks, her sisters Ollie Lamb & Susan Baker and her brothers Stanley & Forrest Pennington. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 25, 2015 from 4-7pm at Jackman Kercheval Meyers Funeral Home, Harrison, OH. Funeral Services will be Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 11:00am at the funeral home with Rev. Ernie Murray officiating. Burial will follow services at Gibson Cemetery, Bright, IN. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital c/o the funeral home.
