Clara Mae Callaway

Clara Mae Callaway, age 98, passed away in Cincinnati, Ohio on August 2, 2022, just two days shy of her 99th birthday.

Born on August 4, 1923 to John and Mae (Wilson) Swales in Bright, Indiana, Clara Mae graduated from Bright High School in 1940 and married Fred “Fritz” Callaway on June 14, 1941 in Bright, Indiana.  She was a long-standing member of the Bright Christian Church and of the Bright Lions Club.

Clara Mae is survived by her children Fred Callaway, Chuck (Rhonda) Callaway, Darrell (Kathy) Callaway, Allen “Mooch” Callaway.  She was the grandmother to 13 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by two sisters, JoAnn Britton and Karen Shell.

Preceded in death by her spouse, Fritz Callaway, her sons Eddie Callaway and Tommy Callaway, two daughters-in-law, Ethel Callaway and Vivian Callaway, as well as her five brothers and her two sisters.

Visitation will be held at Bright Christian Church on Monday, August 8, 2022 from 11 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 1:00 p.m.  Interment will be at Gibson Cemetery in Bright, Indiana.

Memorials may be made to the Callaway Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
