Berdette "Bert" Sandlin, age 90, of Harrison, Ohio passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 18, 2022.
Born February 3, 1932, in Owsley County, Kentucky, he was the son of Ezell and Sadie (Wilder) Sandlin. Bert served proudly as a medic in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He left the service to marry his wife of 67 years, Yvonne Banks, on August 6, 1955 and had 5 children: Marvin (Brenda) of Franklin, OH, Annette (T.J.) Iacobucci of West Harrison, IN, Garry (Shannon) of Covington, KY, Brian (Jen) of Sunman, IN, and Mark (Dana Ross) of Harrison, OH.
Bert was a devout Christian. He spent his life serving the Lord as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher at Smyrna Baptist Church and Faith Baptist Church. He never missed an opportunity to remind his kids to make sure his grandchildren went to church.
He was a long-time tool and die maker, retiring from Ford Motor Company in 1997. Bert constructed everything he put his mind to and if he couldn’t find the tool or part he needed, he would make it. In his free time, he enjoyed a good game of golf at Brook Hill Golf Club, baking cakes and supporting Cincinnati sports teams by yelling at the TV like they could hear him. What brought him the most joy was spending time with his family.
In addition to his loving wife and children, Bert will be deeply missed by his grandchildren Crystal, Aaron, Savannah, Emily, Elena, Eli and Avery; great-grandchildren Maci and Connor; stepbrother Bill Day; numerous nieces and nephews and everyone who knew and loved him.
Bert was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Susie Sandlin, sisters Irene Lewis, Doris Marshall, Violet Hodge-Gilliam, Brenda Phillips and Helen Lundy. Brothers Oliver and Wendell Sandlin and Raymond Day.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 23, 2022, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 24, 2022, 10:00 A.M.
