Anne C Mccowan

Mrs. Anne C. McCowan, age 89, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Shawneespring Care Center. Born in Springfield, MA, she was the oldest daughter of Michael & Helene (Muldoon) Nihill.

Anne graduated from Cathedral High School in Springfield. She held a number of bookkeeping positions for large corporations before marrying and raising a family. She lived in Harrison for nearly sixty years and was a communicant of St. John the Baptist church. She enjoyed activities such as dancing, bowling, knitting and ceramic work, but she mainly enjoyed the company of her neighbors and friends in Harrison. Anne was able to drive until recently and visited her out-of-state relatives and friends frequently.

Anne was preceded in death by her husband, John McCowan, and a grandson, Ryan McCowan. She also lost brothers – James, Joseph, and John, and sisters Barbara & Bernice.

Survivors include her son, John (Leslie) McCowan of Aiken, SC; daughter, Beth (Patrick) Downing of Burke, NY; sister, Sister Helene Michael of Milton, MA; and sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Nihill of West Springfield, MA; granddaughter, Meagan (Allen) Bender of Savannah, GA; and grandson Michael Downing of Burke, NY. Anne had two great grandchildren and numerous nieces & nephews.

A service will be held January 13, 2016; 10:15am at Jackman Kercheval Meyers Funeral Home with Father Jeffrey M. Kemper officiating. Online condolences at www.jkmfuneralhome.com
