Theodore ("Ted") Emerson Coakley

July 2, 1946 — May 24, 2022

Theodore E. (“Ted”) Coakley, age 75 of Harrison, passed away May 24, 2022.

He was born July 2, 1946 in Newark, Ohio the son of Lewis H. and Juanita (Loper) Coakley.  He is preceded in death by his lovely wife Janet (Sames) Coakley of 39 years.  Also preceded in death by his brothers Bill Coakley and Tom Coakley.

He is survived by his four beautiful daughters and four sons-in-law: Amy (Collin) Climer of Cincinnati, Ohio, Susan (Joe) Hamblin of Cincinnati, Ohio, Laura Huesman/Dalan Courtney of Tennessee, and Sara (Scott) Kondas of Charlotte, North Carolina, and bonus daughter Elizabeth (Thomas) Long of Cincinnati, Ohio.  He is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Kylie Huesman, Maddie Climer, Skylar Coakley, Nate Huesman, Graceann Climer, Savannah Kondas, Olivia Kondas, Katie Long, Ben Long, and Allie Long.

He taught Business Education in Bardstown, Kentucky, Southern Hills Vocational School, and Cincinnati Public Schools (“CPS”).  He was the District Supervisor for CPS for 10 years, Director of Queen City Vocational School for seven years, and ended his career as Director of Adult and Continuing Education at CPS.

He was also president of the Morehead State University Alumni Association, president of the Ohio Business and Marketing Supervisors Association, president of the Central Office Education Association for CPS and president of two bowling leagues.

He received many awards including Educator of the Year by the Greater Cincinnati Sales and Marketing Group, Honorary Life Member of Ohio D.E.C.A and the Distinguished Service Award from National D.E.C.A.

His hobbies included bowling, of course (he was a life-time 185 average bowler), golf, working in his yard, and just being with his four beautiful daughters and 10 grandchildren.  He loved camping and was very proud of the fact that he and his lovely wife, Janet, had camped in all 48 continental United States.  He also loved the 15 cruises that he and Janet took together.

Visitation will be at the Jackman Hensley Funeral Home, 215 East Broadway Street, Harrison, Ohio 45030 on Monday, May 30, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be held at the Jackman Hensley Funeral Home with a celebration of life headed by his son-in-law, Collin Climer, on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.  Burial will follow services at Glen Haven Cemetery, Harrison, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Janet and Ted Coakley Memorial Scholarship at the Morehead State University Foundation, go online to https://alumni.moreheadstate.edu/coakley . Gifts may also be mailed to the MSU Foundation at 121 East Second St, Suite 107, Morehead, KY 40351. Checks are to be made payable to the MSU Foundation with Coakley Scholarship in the memo.  Donations may also be made to Hospice of Cincinnati in care of the funeral home.
